SO YOU APPLIED TO AMAZON FLEX, WHAT NOW?
Amazon Flex gets thousands of applications in all of their locations. The application process can be a bit confusing. Trust me, I went through it myself. It took me months of waiting on a list in Seattle before I got accepted. So what should you expect?
What to do while you're waiting for the email..
It’s best to watch some tutorials on Amazon Flex before you start. Here’s one we wrote on tips and tricks for driving with Amazon Flex. You should also become familiar with how to use the Amazon Flex app.
If you’re looking for some side hustles to earn money delivering with your car in the time being, a few popular ones include:
There’s also a few apps that you’ll want to have downloaded. The first is Stride for tracking your mileage and doing taxes at year end. The second is GetUpside. This app gives you cashback every time you fill up for gas!
Is it Worth Waiting?
It can be frustrating to have to wait around for Amazon Flex to hire new drivers in your area.
But the wait is definitely worth it! Amazon Flex is one of the highest paying apps in the gig economy.
I’ve done over a thousand deliveries and have made some great side money doing it.
With that said, there are plenty of other great gigs out there. You made a smart decision by getting on the wait list for Amazon Flex, but there are plenty of other ways to earn in the meantime!
Amazon flex is busy year round in a lot of cities, but it is busiest everywhere during the holidays (November-December). This is the time of the year when Amazon has the highest volume of orders.
To accommodate for the increased demand, they often hire more Flex drivers during this season.
Why Does it Take So Long?
Amazon Flex only hires new delivery drivers when there is an increase in demand that they can’t handle.
Not only do they have a long list of Amazon Flex applicants, but they also send a lot of their package delivery routes to designated Delivery Service Partners.
These partners have the same jobs as Amazon Flex drivers, but they do not work with the flexibility of Amazon Flex. They have set schedules, set hourly pay, they don’t drive their own vehicles and they may receive some benefits from the third party company that contracts their work out to Amazon.
A lot of delivery drivers opt to deliver with Amazon Flex instead of working with a Delivery Service Partner because they enjoy the flexibility of schedule, ability to receive tips (on certain blocks) and the fact that they get to be their own boss.
